3000 euros for Gera-Ost: clubs receive unexpected support!

Gera, Deutschland - In Gera there were some exciting news that the population has employed in the past few days. 3000 euros have now been provided for the Gera-Ost district to promote the club activities. The district council unanimously decided to release this sum to the various clubs that had applied for support. This funding is an important step to strengthen the volunteer and the community in this area.

The funds are distributed to the following groups: the OTG 1902, the sponsoring association of the Gera-Mitte fire brigade, the Bürgerforum Leben-Wohnen-Umwelt and other local associations. The decision to distribute was announced by district mayor Marc-Manuel Moritz (SPD). The associations can use the funds for events, young talent or for important purchases.

innovations in medicine through laser and artificial intelligence

Another important event takes place on October 17th when Jürgen Popp, scientific director of the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies in Jena, presents his knowledge of the possibilities of light in medicine. With the lecture format "Otto Lummer Colloquium", Popp will explain how light-based technologies in combination with artificial intelligence could revolutionize medical diagnostics. The presentation will be held in the Gera city and regional library at 5 p.m.

These technologies could be of great use, especially in the cancer and infection diagnosis, since they enable a real-time diagnosis of diseased tissue. This could be crucial, especially in rural areas where access to laboratory diagnoses is restricted. Popp had already reported on the beginnings of this research direction at the 4th Otto Lummer Colloquium in 2016, and the upcoming sequels promise to advance the developments of these technologies.

"youth research" goes into new rounds

An important call is aimed at the young generation in Gera and the surrounding area: "Jugend research" starts in the 60th round of competition. The competition offers young people up to the age of 21 the opportunity to choose and edit their own research topics. At a kick -off event at POG Precision optics Gera GmbH in Löbichau, the new competition manager Dave Eschrich was presented.

Registrations for the competition are possible by November 30, 2024, although only a short project description is required here. All young researchers have the opportunity to submit their project in one of seven specialist areas. It is particularly exciting that the regional competition in the Kulturhaus Rositz will take place on February 19 and 2025, where the best projects are presented.

The participants are invited to develop their ideas, whereby they can potentially hope for support from mentors. The categories range from biology to chemistry to technology, which offers young researchers a variety of ways to express themselves creatively and scientifically.

insights into the past with Wolfgang Beck

A review of the story cannot be overlooked if the Rotfuchsförderverein and the Free Enumer Association invite you to lecture with Wolfgang Beck. Beck, the former operating director of the VEB Elektromotorenwerk in Wernigerode, will report on his experiences on October 19 at Steinweg 1, Gera Local. His book "Everything has an end - also the market economy" illuminates its time in the GDR and the then industrial development.

BECK, which was appointed director at the age of 34, not only offers personal memories, but also deeper insights into the social structure of companies and their importance in the GDR society. Interested citizens are cordially invited to take part in this event and to learn more about the history of electric motors production and everyday life in the former GDR.

But also for those who are interested in dealing with the GDR past, there is news: The Gera Stasi Document Archives will offer an out-of-first date in the Gera Arcaden on October 17th. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., employees are available to clarify questions about viewing in Stasi documents and accept applications. If you want to see your file, you should have a valid personnel document.

Finally, it should be mentioned that on October 15, a consultation hour with district mayor Christian Klein (CDU) takes place in Gera-Lusan. Whether questions or suggestions for improving the living environment - this is about entering into personal exchange and discussing specific concerns.
