Ecumenism in the Ostalbkreis: A strong sign of community and peace!

Ecumenism in the Ostalbkreis: A strong sign of community and peace!

In the Ostalb district, ecumenism is often associated with common services by Catholics and Protestants. The term ecumenism comes from Greek and means "living in the common house". An example of ecumenism is the ecumenical crib celebration in Schwäbisch Gmünd, in which Catholic and Protestant Christians celebrate together. The content of the nativity scene tells of Maria and Josef, who flee from King Herod, and an angel is impressively transformed by an angel into a helpful person.

In Brazil, ecumenism is understood as a collaboration between people with or without religious affiliation. This also includes people of Afrobrasilian and indigenous origin and illustrates that ecumenical values are already used in everyday life. An example is a Muslim nurse who provides a sister at Christmas. Ecumenism is also considered a social responsibility, for example through the demands for a wealth tax for rich income and more teaching staff for children. Reference to the ecumenical creed of the World Assembly of Christians from 1990 in Seoul, the importance of love, peace and the law of the weaker is emphasized, as Schwäbische Post reported.

ecumenism in interreligious dialogue

As part of the interreligious dialogue, the topic of the Gospel of John is discussed in relation to the Christian-Jewish dialogue. The Bible Week 2025 will deal with seven signs of character from the Gospel of John, whereby the focus is on recognizing God's acting through Jesus. The event examines the connection between "signs" and "faith" in the Jewish tradition as well as problems that result from an exclusive interpretation in relation to Jesus. Particular attention is also paid to the arguments between Jesus and "the Jews" in the Gospel of John.

The focus is on

questions such as those based on the inner Jewish dispute, which reflects in the Gospel of John. The aim of the Tora Lord is to examine the connections to Jewish faith and thinking and to address the demarcations towards "the Jews" and the anti-Jewish history of activity. This includes both Jewish and Christian perspectives on the texts. The event will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the regional church office of the EKM in Erfurt. The organizer is the Advisory Board for Christian-Jewish dialogue of the EKM. Registrations are possible until January 13, 2025, as Ekmd.de reported.
