Schmölln plants the future: Students are committed to sustainable environment!

Schmölln, Deutschland - In Schmölln, an important step towards environmental awareness and sustainability was taken again. Today there was a large tree planting campaign on the Pfefferberg, which was carried out by the state regular school "Am Eichberg" in cooperation with Sparkasse Altenburger Land. This year, students in the ninth grades took part in this project, which started with the tenth graders last year.

The Jähler tree nursery played a crucial role in this initiative. Leonard Jähler, the owner, selected specially resistant tree species that can withstand different climatic conditions. Among other things, amber trees, various types of asches and domestic linden trees were planted. "The first few months are particularly important for the care of the trees," emphasized Jähler.

support from the Sparkasse

For the sustainable maintenance of the new plantings, Sparkasse Altenburger Land not only provided financial resources, but also supported the students directly in the campaign. Water bags have already been attached to the new trees to ensure that they are sufficiently supplied with water. The city's building yard brought a water tank to be able to pour the trees well.

branch manager Sebastian Goltz was also on site and helped the students to plant. The Sparkasse had funded the tree planting campaign with 4,000 euros, which not only contributed to the students of the regular school, but also a contribution to the class fund. Furthermore, the school support association received support of 500 euros.

"I think it is important that the youth are active in our city," said headmistress Steffi Kersten and emphasized the importance of such projects. Mayor Sven Schrade found that the Sparkasse's commitment is not a matter of course and welcomed the increasing mindfulness of the youth to environmental issues.

long -term responsibility and commitment

Responsibility for the care of the planted trees will be in the hands of the students in the future. In addition to the planting campaign on the Pfefferberg, the surroundings were also cleaned and freed from leaves. Such actions are not new at school; The students have been actively involved in the environmental and beautification projects of the community for many years.

This commitment to the environment not only shows the commitment of the students, but also how important the topics of sustainability and environmental awareness are in today's society. Further details on this citizenship campaign can be found in the report on www.aBg-net.de are read.
