Free bicycle parking spaces at Oldesloer train station: a victory for commuters!

Bad Oldesloe. A topic: The use of the new bicycle parking garage at Oldesloer Bahnhof remains free! After months of discussion, the city's environmental, energy and transport committee has decided with a large majority that the 136 parking spaces in the six collecting garages can continue to be used for cycling commuters without fees. An application from the CDU, SPD and the Greens made this decision possible.

The decision is no coincidence. The political parties had vehemently argued against a fee, after all there are also free parking spaces for cars at the train station. "It would be absurd to ask cyclists to the cash register," said the unanimous opinion. Originally, after a test phase that was free of charge thanks to the funding, a fee model should be introduced. But the reality showed that the places were often reserved but not used - a yawning empty empty was on the ironing house.

In order to improve the load, the online booking system is revised. In the future, 70 percent of the bicycle parking spaces should only be available for daily bookings, while 30 percent can be reserved weekly. Jens Wieck (CDU) explains that the administration should check whether a three -time extension of the weekly booking is possible. The bookings are made via the nationwide transport network system near.sh and its bike-and-ride portal, but the start date has not yet been determined.

In addition to the Radhaus, there are also 200 lockable bicycle boxes and 255 covered, free parking spaces at the train station. But not everything runs smoothly: overcrowded parking spaces with abandoned, demolished bicycles cause excitement. The regulatory office has already taken measures. In addition, there are always reports on bicycle thefts, which is why the CDU parliamentary group has applied for camera surveillance. The city administration is now examining the possibilities, but data protection questions could make implementation more difficult.
