U1-hurray! Partial closure in Hamburg finally canceled!

Schleswig, Deutschland - Hamburg's subway driver can breathe a sigh of relief! From Monday, December 16, the subway line 1 between the Ohlsdorf and Lattenkamp stops will be put into operation again. This return takes place after an impressive partial closure of almost six weeks, which was originally only planned until December 10th. As the Hamburg Hochbahn announced, the bad weather was a decisive factor in delaying the track work. Heavy rain and muddy building ground made the workers almost impossible to complete the necessary work in good time, which extended the blocking by five days, as well as the Tagesschau reported .

important construction work on Sengelmannstrasse

The extension of the blocking was not only an inconvenience for the commuters, but also an important measure for the future Sengelmannstrasse underground station. In the coming weeks, a double platform will be completed there, which should enable passengers to conveniently switch between the U1 and the U5, which is being planned. The technical expansion of this stop is expected to be completed by January 19, 2025. Until then, the U1 will drive through Sengelmannstrasse without a stop, as the n-tv reported.

In the period of the block, a bus replacement traffic was set up, which will continue to operate the affected routes until the subway is fully functional again. The challenges of the weather caused the Hamburg Hochbahn to bundle all available resources in order to complete the last phase of work on time. The return to normal driving operations could make the everyday pendulum routine of many passengers considerably easier and hopefully brings a relief for the users dependent on the U1.
