Hohenwestedt. Alarm level red for training in Schleswig-Holstein! Despite the record number of 17,500 training positions, over 3,260 positions are vacant! The Federal Employment Agency raises the alarm: On September 30, around 1,700 applicants - including 9100 men and around 5,600 women - had not yet found a training position. A dark picture that endangers the future of young people in the region!

But not everything is lost! The head of the North Regional Directorate, Markus Biercher, optimistically announces that interest in vocational training has risen suddenly. In comparison to the previous year, 1600 more applicants report! There is an unbroken interest in training in particular in the areas of industry, craft, public administration and healthcare. "The companies are ready to do everything to enable young people to get started with a qualified profession," promises Biercher. A ray of hope in the training landscape!

But one thing remains clear: the clichés in the world of work are stubborn! Women prefer professions and office management workwoman while the men dominate in the craft. A remarkable special case is the 18-year-old Emily Auer, who starts the reader in Hohenwestedt as a machining mechanic. "I always wanted to do something craftsmanship," explains the young woman, who gained practical experience before the training started. Your determination is exemplary for everyone who wants to prevail in a male -dominated profession!

Emily reports of a respectful atmosphere among the 25 trainees, of which there are only four women. "Many women shy away from the craft," she says. "I didn't care, I wanted to do it!" The early start of work at 6 a.m. was a challenge, but it is determined not to get it down. "Simply do it, don't keep your mouth and assert yourself" is her motto for all women who want to gain a foothold in the craft!
