Celebrate democracy: long night in Schleswig-Holstein!

The "Long Night of Democracy" will take place in Schleswig-Holstein on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024. The event will be held over several hours from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and offers a comprehensive program that can be experienced in different locations in the region. A special highlight of the event is offered in the Drostei in Pinneberg, where the adult education centers (VHS) have played the organization significantly. Here visitors can look forward to musical performances, exciting lectures and even a poetry slam.

The overarching goal of that night is to celebrate democracy in all its facets and to get into conversation. Participation is free of charge and no prior registration is required. The adult education centers want to focus on this important social achievement with various formats. In order to raise awareness of this topic in advance, the exhibition "Democracy needs memory" has been shown in the Drostei since September 12th, which is intended to tune the participants on the topics of the overarching events.

The long night of democracy not only extends through Pinneberg, but also includes other cities in the Stormarn and Segeberg districts. In Reinbek in the Volkshochschule Sachsenwald at 5:30 p.m., a lecture with the title "For the 75th birthday of the Basic Law - from the shaky gang of democracy" will take place, which deals with the history and the challenges of democracy in Germany.

In Bargteheide, a vernissage is opened at 7 p.m., which deals with the topic of "Ukraine - War in everyday life". The photo exhibition, which takes place in the Stadthaus foyer, should give visitors an impression of the everyday life of people in Ukraine during the war. An important topic is also addressed in Norderstedt: from 5:30 p.m., the views of the increasing number of anti-Semitic incidents in Schleswig-Holstein are aimed at. This event is organized in cooperation with the city's integration officer and the association "Chaverim - Friendship with Israel".

The long night is a unique opportunity to exchange ideas about democracy and to reflect on their importance in everyday life, which is fast -moving today. It also promotes the understanding of the challenges that our society faces.
