The municipalities of Timmendorfer Strand, Ratekau and Scharbeutz teamed up with the country to initiate a feasibility study to connect to the railway line of the hinterland connection. This study will check various solutions and is crucial for future transport links.

The state plans to lead the local public transport through the new hinterland connection of the Fehmarnbelt crossing, which means that the old spa railway is no longer operated. For Timmendorfer Strand, this could mean that the only connection is made via a new train station at the Ratekau junction of the A1. A worrying step for the community!

The supporters of the old pool railway have not defeated and call for a feasibility study that also takes the preservation of the bath track into account. Although the focus is now on commuting between Ratekau and Timmendorfer Strand, the question remains whether the rail connection is actually realized. A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport confirmed that the municipality of Timmendorfer Strand will soon make the tender for the feasibility study.

But the future remains uncertain! In addition to the rail connection, bus and tram solutions are also examined. Mayor Sven Partheil-Böhnke (FDP) skeptically commented on a bus transfer and emphasized that this was not compatible with the goals of the climate and traffic transition. "We would then have to transport 1.2 million people to the community by bus," said Party-Böhnke. The financing of a possible rail connection between Ratekau and Timmendorfer Strand also remains a mystery, since the country does not want to provide any financial resources.
