Eutin commemorates: Memorial Day is reminiscent of victims of war and violence
On Sunday, November 17th, a moving commemoration of the victims of the two world wars and tyranny will take place in Eutin. District Administrator Timo Gaarz calls the citizens to take part in the memorial events for the Memorial Day. At a time when the horrors of the war move closer again, it is more important than ever to commemorate the victims and not to forget the teachings of history.
The event begins at 12 p.m. at the memorial in Oldenburger Landstrasse. Here the district association Ostholstein of the People's Association of German War Graves Fund will give a speech, followed by a wreath resolution. Gaarz, who is also the district chairman of the Volksbund, will welcome the participants before a representative of the Catholic Church takes the floor. The conclusion is a speech by district president Petra Kirner, who urgently calls for participation in the memorial events.
a memorial for peace
"This day reminds us that we are responsible for keeping the story awake and learning from it," emphasizes Gaarz. In view of the current conflict in Ukraine and continuing violence, the importance of the Memorial Day becomes even clearer. "Let us hold together, pay respect for peace, reconciliation and humanity," adds Kirner. The memorial event is not only a look back at the past, but also a call to actively stand up for a peaceful future.
