U-train chaos in Hamburg: U1 closure for five weeks!
U-train chaos in Hamburg: U1 closure for five weeks!
Attention, hamburgers! From Monday, the U1 subway line will be partially closed for almost five weeks! There are massive construction work between the Lattenkamp and Ohlsdorf stops, which will last until December 10th. The Hamburg Hochbahn has announced that the tracks are being flipped to create the connection to the planned U5. This is an important step towards an improved subway infrastructure in the city!
During the closure, passengers are not on their own! Replacement buses are used between Lattenkamp and Ohlsdorf, but be careful: travelers must expect an additional waiting time of up to 20 minutes! So it is advisable to plan the travel times in advance so as not to get into stress.
new transfer options on Sengelmannstrasse
An exciting update for the future: On Sengelmannstrasse, it will be possible in the future to conveniently switch between the U1 and the new U5! A new platform is already in progress, and after the blocking, the U1 will hold temporarily. But that's not all: the southern platform is also being rebuilt during operation to further improve the transfer experience.
The anticipation for the new U5 grows! The first section of Bramfeld via Sengelmannstrasse train station to Borgweg is to be opened by 2033. And that's just the beginning! The fully automatic line will continue to be expanded by 2040 and will eventually combine the main train station, the University Hospital and Hagenbeck's zoo to Stellingen. The Hamburgers can therefore look forward to a revolutionized subway!
