Change of shift at customs: Experience inclusion up close in Magdeburg!
Hauptzollamt Magdeburg, Magdeburg, Deutschland - On October 10, 2024, a nationwide action day entitled "Shift Change" took place. On this special day, people with and without disabilities exchanged their jobs for a day in order to better get to know the respective working environments through this change of perspective. This initiative has been carried out for several years, with 18 main customs offices from Kiel to Lörrach participated in the day of the campaign. The Magdeburg main customs office was also actively involved.
Nora Stiller, the head of the Magdeburg main customs office, was enthusiastic about the partnership with the Pfeiffer foundations from Magdeburg: "With the Pfeiffer foundations we found a great partner workshop." This enables the participants to show the activities and challenges in the customs area live.
experiences from the customs world
The employees of the workshops for people with disabilities were able to immerse themselves in the role of customs officers on the day of the campaign and get to know the various tasks and responsibilities within the control unit of traffic routes and the financial control undeclared work. Practical exercises also included a detained vehicle control, which gave the participants a realistic insight into the work of customs In return, Zöllner from Magdeburg will take over their “layer” in November at the Pfeiffer foundations to experience the dimensions of the work on site. This mutual exchange not only promotes understanding at work, but also social inclusion.
Inclusion plays a central role for customs. The number of employees with disabilities is about 8 percent above the legal requirement in customs administration. This shows the commitment of the customs authorities to create an inclusive work environment, which also offers people with restrictions the opportunity to make a career.
The main customs office is continuously looking for motivated applicants for different positions in the upscale and medium service. Severely disabled people are also welcome and find suitable jobs in the customs administration. Commitment and teamwork are required here, and applicants can find out more about the website www.zoll-karriere.de or the social media channels of the customs about career options.
Overall, the "Shift change" campaign day shows how important the exchange between different groups of employees is and that there should be no barriers for integrative cooperation. The campaign is not only an opportunity for further professional training, but also a step towards a more open and accessible society.
