Cruises in Wismar: Fewer guests, but new challenges!
In 2024, a total of 4,500 cruise passengers came to the Hanseatic city of Wismar, which corresponds to a decline of around 500 passengers compared to the previous year. The reason for this decline is, among other things, the cancellation of a fourth visit to the popular ZDF dream ship "MS Amadea", which was canceled at short notice due to unfavorable weather conditions. The second arrival of the cruise liner this year took place in December after the ship was already in Wismar in July. The city was able to achieve revenue of around 100,000 euros through the nine ships, mainly through port and lounger fees, such as ndr.de reported.
The city administration in Wismar will take care of the organization of the cruise ships from January 2025 after the Columbus Cruise Center has hired its work. In the coming year, a total of ten ships are planned, including the "Star Pride" and the "Hamburg", which are scheduled to moor in Wismar in June. The cruise investor, which was financed with around eight million euros, is viewed by many as an important investment for the city. In addition, the arrivals are expected to boost tourism in the region, which the city and the country hope very much. It also became known that during the last attempts of the dream ship the passengers could enjoy the beauty of Wismar and his surroundings before the MS Amadea set up again to Kiel, such as Tageschau.de reported.
