Historical passenger ship City of Kiel moves to the wik!
Kiel. The historical passenger ship "Stadt Kiel" has cleared its anchors and moved to the Wik for the first time. This floating monument has now found its new place on the bunker pier in the inland port of the North Ostsee Canal. A big step for the traditional ship scene!
The Yachtwerft Dick, which has been looking after sports boats and marine settlers for years, has been ordered to renew the windows of the "City of Kiel". Treasurer Stefan von Weydenberg from the support association is enthusiastic: "This is the debut of the shipyard in the traditional ship scene in Kiel!" The shipyard does not have its own quay, but a practical solution was found in cooperation with the Walter Boike locksmith. The Kai on the Uferstrasse is easily accessible for the shipyard and ready for the work!
Window change for the "Stadt Kiel"
In the coming days, the ship's salon will be exposed to exchange the windows. The first work is already planned: First, half of the salon is tackled. The old window frames are leaking and causing corrosion - high time for a change!
In March the ship will then be brought to the Friedrich shipyard to be made fit for the upcoming summer season. The "City of Kiel" celebrated its 90th anniversary this year and is entered as a floating monument together with the tonnle layer "Bussard". Thanks to the funding from the German Foundation for Monument Protection and Kiel, the renovation is supported.
Hansekogge also in hibernation
The Hansekogge on the Sartorikai has also started hibernation. Last Saturday it was equipped and is to be brought to the Rathje shipyard, where important woodwork is carried out on the fuselage. By April, all traditional ships should be ready for the sea again. Sponsors and helpers are very welcome - the support associations are happy about every support!
