Büchen forest swimming pool: Successful exchange secures the future!

In Büchen, the Active Citizens Büchen (ABB) group visited the forest swimming pool to pay a visit to the responsible employees at the end of the 2024 swimming season. This took place as part of an informal exchange in which insights into the processes and challenges of the company were gained. The discussion around the swimming pool strategy for 2024 was particularly relevant, especially given the strained staffing situation, which could potentially have led to reduced opening hours. However, thanks to the new and committed staff, the forest swimming pool was able to remain open throughout.

"We regularly discuss technical documents and plans. I therefore think it is important to get an idea on site," said Hans Andreae from ABB. The tour of the facility gave a very well-kept impression, and necessary investments in the future of the pool were discussed. Important points included tree protection, the planting of new trees as well as the implementation of accessibility and solar hot water use.

Focus on swimming education

A central concern of the members was swimming training, especially for children. Jacqueline Rottmann, also from ABB and active on the building committee, stated: "Are there enough offers for children to learn to swim? We should ensure that offers such as baby swimming and a teaching pool are available. I am also interested in how many seahorses were made this season." These questions highlighted ABB's commitment to further promoting swimming education as an essential goal of the forest swimming pool.

ABB's feedback on their visit was consistently positive. The staff provided valuable information about the entire organizational process and operations. The number of visitors in the summer of 2024 was also pleasingly high, which underlines the success of the pool. At the end, the director of the forest pool, Mareille Eggers, was presented with a small gift to express gratitude for the work done. The exchange between ABB members and the swimming pool employees reflects the desire to further strengthen the forest swimming pool as an important leisure facility in the community.
