Uncertain jobs in the Duchy: 25% of the contracts limited!
In the Duchy of Lauenburg, the uncertainty on the labor market is alarming! “Temporary jobs” are a real risk for many employees. Anyone who signs a new employment contract here must expect that after a year or two. Despite a shortage of skilled workers, many companies continue to rely on temporary contracts. Anne Widder from the Trade Union Food Guest Gaststätten (NGG) warns: "These contracts put up with the employees that they do not need."
The numbers speak for themselves: In the first quarter of this year, around 3,760 employment contracts were concluded in the Duchy of Lauenburg, 25 percent of which were limited. In a nationwide comparison, the quota is even terrifying 34 percent! Widder demands that workers should definitely ask for the reason for the time limit before signing a contract. "A 'job with an expiry date' makes looking for an area of accommodation and makes loans to important purchases," she explains. This can even shake family planning!
The demand for change
The NGG Hamburg-Elmshorn requires a drastic reduction in temporary employment contracts for no specific reason. The failed traffic light coalition had decided to contain "chain limits", but this important task remains unresolved. "This is a central problem that has to tackle the next federal government," emphasizes Widder. She sees the temporary continued employment particularly critically after training: "A 'job with an expiry date' is not a perspective for young people!"
The reality is sobering: Almost every second new hiring of less than 25 is limited! According to the Böckler Foundation, many unqualified employees only receive temporary contracts, while trained specialists are much better. "This shows how employers take advantage of the weaker position of people without training," said Widder. Time is urgent, because the future of the employees is on the brink!
