Geesthacht: Refurbishment traffic jam forces to be expensive asphalt repair!
Geesthacht. The Dieberger Straße, one of the most important traffic arteries that connects Geesthachter Straße (B 404) with the port, should actually be extensively renovated this year. However, due to an acute lack of personnel in the civil engineering department of the city administration, the measure is now postponed to 2027! Until then, the dilapidated asphalt urgently needs to be renewed in order to keep the street usable. The costs for this short -term measure amount to a whopping 85,000 euros!
The city administration has already announced a full closure of Dieberger Straße between Geesthachter Straße and Neuer Krug from November 27 to December 3. In this area there are important facilities such as the Otto Hahn-Gymnasium and the Alfred Nobel School, which will lead to significant traffic disruptions. Extensive detour is set up, which leads via Baustraße, Sandstraße and Lüneburger Straße. If you know the area, you can also use the middle road to avoid traffic jams.
10,000 vehicles on every working day
The Dieberger Straße is in a catastrophic state! Citizens report defects every day, while around 10,000 vehicles, including around 350 trucks, use the road on weekdays. The construction work was originally supposed to begin this autumn, which should also include the renewal of the sewage system and new supply lines. But now the basic renovation is postponed indefinitely. AKN Eisenbahn GmbH plans to renew the level crossing at the Alten Düneberger train station in the course of the full closure, but that will not be done until 2027/2028!
The city of Geesthacht pushes a renovation backlog in front of it, which is estimated at over 50 million euros. The Dieberger Straße can no longer be used as a detour route, which is why the provisional new asphalt is urgently necessary. This example impressively shows how much the city is fighting with its infrastructure problems and how citizens have to suffer from the consequences!
