Important new regulations from October: BAföG, mature duty and more!
On October 1, 2024, significant changes come into force in Germany that affect numerous areas of public life, including finances for students, drivers and rail travelers. These regulations aim to increase both security and financial relief for citizens.
One of the most important innovations is the introduction of a winter tire obligation. Drivers are now obliged to use tires with the alpine symbol only in winter conditions. Older M+S tires without this label are no longer permitted. This regulation aims to improve traffic safety. Those who drive with inadmissible tires are faced with fines of at least 60 euros. In the event of a risk to other road users, even higher penalties of 80 euros and one point in Flensburg can threaten.
BAföG adjustments and financial relief
Another important topic is the increase in BAföG rates for students, which will be implemented from the winter semester 2024/25. The basic requirement rate increases by five percent to 475 euros. The flat rate for housing costs is also adapted, so that students who no longer live with their parents receive 380 euros. The maximum funding amount is now raised to 992 euros, which should take into account the increasing living costs. In addition, the exemption in parental income is increased, which means that more students will be entitled to BAföG in the future.
For first semester from low -income households there is a special measure: From October you will receive a one -time start -up aid in the amount of 1,000 euros. This help should support young people under the age of 25 in the financial challenges of the start of study, especially in the case of purchases such as laptops or teaching materials. The application can be made by the end of the following month after the start of the course.
improvements in rail traffic and heating promotion
From October 16, 2024, the pre -booking period for rail tickets will be extended to up to twelve months, which should offer travelers more planning security. Another positive news is the resumption of the night train connection between Berlin and Paris, which will be put back into operation after extensive construction work from October 28th. In addition, there should also be a direct connection to Paris during the day.
The funding for heating is particularly relevant for homeowners. Owners of single -family houses who submitted their heating calculations to KfW in September can expect the heating funding to be paid out from the end of October. This measure promotes the energetic renovation of residential buildings.
