Vogel singing of the Renaissance: Cantus Avium inspires in Flensburg!
Johanniskirchhof 22, 24937 Flensburg, Deutschland - A musical highlight is imminent! The Flensburg Johannisklang brings the celebrated Danish vocal quintet Cantus Avium Copenhagen on stage. These five outstanding interpreters of the English Renaissance polyphony promise an unforgettable experience. Her name, inspired by the great composer William Byrd, means "bird singing" on Latin and alludes to the English word game "Byrdsong". The listeners can look forward to Byrd's other trade fair for five votes, accompanied by a unique collection of rare five -part works that illuminate profound topics such as loss, consolation and light.
William Byrd (1540-1623), often referred to as the "father of English music", is considered one of the most important composers of the Renaissance. He lived in a turbulent period, shaped by the bloody Reformation period in England, and led a challenging life as Catholic. Many of his deeply moving Latin vocal music were composed for secret Catholic trade fairs, often with only one singer per voice. Among the highlights of the program is Byrd's moving piece "Ye Sacred Muses", which is dedicated to the teacher Thomas Tallis and begins with the heartbreaking words: "Tallis is dead, and the music dies."
