New student dormitory in Flensburg: A home for 159 students!

The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein proudly presented its latest dormitory on the university campus, which has 159 furnished single apartments. Among the guests of honor were prominent personalities such as State Secretary of Science Guido Wendt and City Councilor Noosha Aubel, who underlined the importance of this project.

The impressive building extends over five floors and offers a variety of living opportunities. 119 Apartments have their own bathrooms and are divided into ten shared apartments with jointly used kitchens and lounges. There are also 40 barrier -free individual apartments available, which are equipped with their own bathroom and kitchenette. The living space vary between 16 and 20 square meters, and rents are extremely attractive with an average of 355 euros including the Internet. The first students are expected to move in from February 2025.

"We are proud to open our third new dormitory on the Flensburg campus within just seven years," said Susann Schrader, managing director of the Studentenwerk SH, during the inauguration ceremony. The close cooperation of everyone involved was crucial to set a strong sign against the student housing shortage. In his speech, Guido Wendt emphasized the importance of creating more living space for students. With an investment of 12.95 million euros, the "Sophie-Bothilde-Jensen-Haus" is the largest project of this kind in Flensburg.

The new dormitory, which is named after the famous Südschleswig artist Sophie Bothilde Jensen, not only offers living space, but also an inviting atmosphere for academic and social activities. The structural design is based on the neighboring "Emmy-Hennings-Haus" and fulfills the latest technical standards. With this opening, the Studentenwerk SH is now operating a total of seven dormitories in Flensburg, which offer 666 students a home. The plans for the renovation and expansion of the student dormitory "Norderburse" are already in the pipeline to further increase the living space rate.
