Refurbishment of the helicopter landing site: Security for Villach guaranteed!
LKH Villach, Österreich - Currently the preparations for the renovation of the helipad at LKH Villach are currently underway. Construction work begins in mid -May and should last until the end of August 2025. During this time, the landing site on the roof of the surgeon building is not flown, but the rescue air traffic remains guaranteed.
In order to ensure patient care during the renovation, two nearby outdoor land surfaces were selected for the flight rescue. The patients are transported directly into the shock room. Dr. Wolfgang Deutz, Commercial Director of the LKH Villach, explains that all the necessary precautions have already been taken to guarantee a smooth process.
collaboration of the emergency services
The planning and preparation of the renovation measures took place in close cooperation with various organizations, including the ARA flight rescue, the ÖAMTC flight rescue, the Villach fire brigade, the Red Cross and the Samaritanbund. Medical director Dr. Elke Schindler confirms that the approved outdoorland areas are sufficient for rescue and emergency operation. Nursing director Christine Schaller-Maitz thanks the partner organizations for their supporting cooperation.
After completing the renovation work, the helipad will meet the modern requirements and thus make patient transport considerably more secure. Such measures are particularly important because the requirements for quick medical care are increasing.
emergency services in context
In the nationwide context, the efficient handling of emergency services is of great importance. An analysis on behalf of the Federal Agency for Road Sewings showed that in 2020 and 2021 around 16.1 million emergency trips and around 13.1 million missions per year were carried out in the public emergency services in Germany. These figures illustrate the enormous pressure under which the emergency services are.
The data prove that in metropolitan city regions over twice as many missions as in other regions. Of the emergency operations, around 0.4 percent, around 66,800, are rescue helicopter operations. This corresponds to an average of about 180 missions per day. The average aid period for operations was 8.7 minutes on the national average, with 95 percent of the missions being achieved within 16.2 minutes.
In view of the challenges resulting from Corona pandemic, the performance of the emergency services remains of central importance. A further analysis of the development of the performance level in the emergency services is planned for the period 2024/25.
