Zwickau: Antifa demo escalates-the police start pepper spray!
In Zwickau there was an explosive incident during an "anti-fascist memorial" for the victims of the NSU on Sunday. The demonstration that moved through the city center was visited by around 200 participants, while around 100 police officers were in use to secure the event. But the peaceful memory quickly turned into a chaos when a 26-year-old man who is assigned to the right-wing scene as a media activist was involved in an argument.
escalized the situation, as a participant wanted to solidarize with the man, which led to wrangling. The police were forced to use pepper spray to regain control. As a result, several ads were filed: against the 26-year-old for assault and against a 20-year-old because of resistance to enforcement officers. A 33-year-old who disturbed an ongoing police operation was also reported after he had injured a police officer.

The demonstration was a warning to the terrible crimes of the NSU, a right-wing extremist terrorist cell that had committed several murders of people with Turkish roots between 2000 and 2007. The case was uncovered in 2011 when the corpses of Uwe Bönhardt and Uwe Mundlos were found in a burning motorhome. Beate Zschäpe, the accomplice, was sentenced to life imprisonment after she was identified as an accomplice.
The events in Zwickau are another example of the tensions that can occur at such memorial events, and show the continued conflicts between different political groups in Germany.
