VW in the crisis: IHK demands clarity for Zwickau's locations!

The automotive congress in Zwickau, under the motto "The future is mobile", focused on the urgent concerns of the industry. Around 300 participants discussed the mobility crisis, which takes the Volkswagen Group in the strangle. The uncertainty about the future of the VW locations ensures great fear among the employees and puts a significant impact on the planning of the suppliers.

Max Jankowsky, President of the IHK Chemnitz, called for a rapid clarification of VW's situation at the congress. "The current information vacuum harms a lot," he emphasized and warned that the employees celebrate Christmas with their families at the end of the year without knowing how to continue for them. Jankowsky called for a decision based on key figures, not on postcodes.

political framework required

Danny Auerswald, the head of VW Saxony, also demanded clear political framework. "We need a funding model that cannot be abolished overnight," said Auerswald. He also called for an expansion of the charging infrastructure and a reduction in electricity prices to make production in Zwickau more efficient. In the middle of a hard austerity course, VW plans to reduce the wages by ten percent and close at least three works.

Despite the tense location, Dirk Vogel from the Network Automobile supplier Saxony does not see any drastic downsizing personnel reduction among suppliers in Southwest Saxony. "Thanks to the conversion to e-mobility in Zwickau, we will not see any massive job cuts here in the next few years," he said. In order to get the industry back on track, a clear commitment to e-mobility and stable energy prices are essential.
