Athletes celebrate in Zwickau: 31st honor for the city's champions!

On November 14th, the Sparkasse's house in Zwickau shone in the shine of the athlete's award! At the 31st athlete's ceremony of the city, outstanding athletes and teams were awarded for their impressive achievements in the competition year 2023/2024. The coveted sports plaques in gold, silver and bronze were awarded to the best of the best, with a national championship title being the minimum requirement for the honor.

Mayor Constance Arndt and representative of the Zwickau district sports association and the Sparkasse Zwickau took over the ceremonial handover of the 100 awards. The event was led by moderator Matthias König and musically framed by talented students of the Robert Schumann Conservatory. An unforgettable evening that duly praised the success of the Zwickau athletes!

The radiant winners

The gold medal went to the line dance stars of TSG Rubin Zwickau, including Nadine Seidel, Uta Rösner and Heiko Podszu, all of which were shining on an international parquet. Melina Fischer, who took the 3rd place in the racing toboggan at the World Cup, and Dr. Werner Götze, who was celebrated as a world champion in the 4 x 400 m season in athletics, were able to look forward to the highest award.

The silver plaques were awarded to numerous athletes, including Alexander Pekrul, who became German runner -up in the hammer throw, and Patrick Koburger, who triumphed over 5000 m. The handball players of BSV Sachsen Zwickau, who were celebrated as German champions, were also among the radiant winners.

The bronze plaques went to aspiring talents such as Jonathan Löschner, national champion in bowling, and the Rhönrad gymnasts of the ESV Lok Zwickau, who shone in their discipline. Another highlight was the honor of the swimming clubs, which showed excellent performance in different categories. An evening full of emotions, pride and top sporting performance - Zwickau celebrated its champions!
