Torgauer Brauhof: City council rejects asylum accommodation!

Nordsachsen. In a dramatic step, the Torgau city council recently rejected the proposal of the district office, the hotel "Torgauer Brauhof" in one to transform new center for up to 170 asylum seekers. Many citizens are now wondering why refugees in particular should be accommodated in the heart of the city with a small prospect of staying. The State Directorate of Saxony (LDS) commented on this critical situation and answered the most important questions.

The LDS has already fully exploited the current living law on the accommodation of asylum seekers. Vice-press spokesman Ingolf Ulrich explains that these regulations in the Asylum Act prescribe how long refugees may remain in admission facilities before they have to be assigned to municipalities. "At the latest after six months, families with underage children have to be resettled, while single asylum seekers have to move after 18 to 24 months," continued Ulrich. This also affects rejected asylum seekers and indicates the urgency of the problem.

The challenges of accommodation

With a view to the distribution of asylum seekers, Ulrich explains that it is often necessary to accommodate people in municipalities before these deadlines have expired, especially if there are relapses. These obstacles are often serious nature and arise when countries of origin refuse to take their citizens back or if necessary travel documents are missing. These complex circumstances force the authorities to act faster than is legally intended.

In addition, the responsibility of the accommodation according to municipal allocation is at the district. "According to the Asylum Act, Community accommodations are the rule for people with no prospect of protection status," said the press spokesman. Despite the concerns about possible conflicts between long -established and refugees, Ulrich emphasizes that it cannot be assumed that a low prospect of staying or unpassed employment automatically leads to tensions. Instead, work opportunities should be created that can make a positive contribution to the community. Infinancial terms is the flat rate per refugee who receives the circles, set at EUR 2654.71 per capita and quarter. This supports the costs for accommodation, support and livelihood of asylum seekers.
