Bright lanterns and happy songs: celebrate St. Martin in Oschatz!
Oschatz. When darkness falls over Oschatz, a magical spectacle lights up the streets: the traditional St. Martin's parades! On November 11th, the feast of Saint Martin is celebrated, an event that captivates children and families. With glowing lanterns, cheerful songs and an important message of sharing, St. Martin's Day will be an unforgettable experience for the youngest.
The legend of Saint Martin of Tours, who shared his cloak with a freezing beggar, comes to life through the lantern parades. All over the region, children parade through the streets with homemade lanterns, accompanied by parents and friends. This tradition is not only a celebration but also a valuable lesson in charity and community.

This year the Oschatz region will be illuminated several times! The first St. Martin's parade took place in Cavertitz on Friday, November 8th. The parade in Oschatz starts at 5 p.m. at St. Aegidien Church, where the students from the “Apfelbaumschule” present the history of St. Martin in a short performance. The lantern procession then moves through the city center to the monastery church, where a convivial celebration with bratwurst, mulled wine and children's punch awaits visitors.
