Nordsachsen. The push-hunting season has started in northern Saxony! On Friday, 120 hunters gathered in the Dahlener Heide to celebrate the exciting opening. Dr. Gebhard Baronius from the Sachsenforst state operations welcomed the participants, while the hunting in the Reudnitz district found their start. The last hunt will take place on January 18 in the Wartha area near Doberschütz. An exciting event for all hunting enthusiasts!

But what exactly are driven hunting? This special hunting method brings hunters and drivers together to move wildly like deer and wild boars in a certain direction. The hunters are at fixed positions, ready to kill the game. In northern Saxony, a total of 22 hunts are planned on an area of around 13,000 hectares, which extend over the Annaburger Heide, the Dahlener Heide and the Dübener Heide. With 1900 participants, including hunters from abroad, the number of hunters remains constant. Particularly exciting: hunters from Sweden come because the hunting of wild boar is unusual!

For gourmets there is good news! Anyone who is interested in regional wild meat can get fresh wild meat through the district managers or the headquarters of the Taura forest district. The wild meat is only handed over in the piece and with a ceiling. The price of wild boar meat is 2.65 euros per kilogram, while roe deer is significantly more expensive at 4.44 euros. The demand for wild meat is high and it is estimated that a considerable amount will be killed by mid -January.

The abolition of the African pigpest blocking zone has also loosened the rules for the transport of wild boar, which makes hunting easier. Nevertheless, the risk of a new outbreak remains, which is why the driven hunts also contribute to the containment of the ASP risic.
