The sirens heralded in Königshain-Wiederau on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. The first fire engines were on the scene within just six minutes. But what initially appeared like a real emergency quickly turned out to be a planned exercise in which four local fire departments were actively involved. A total of 56 firefighters took part, who only found out on site that it was an exercise. Operations Manager Ingo Knorr, also a military director of the Steiner local fire brigade, emphasized how important such joint exercises are in order to strengthen the cooperation between the local weirs.
This annual event not only offers an opportunity for training, but also simulates realistic use scenarios. This year it was important to find missing people and to fight a fire. "We managed to carry out the exercise efficiently. We are very satisfied with the course," said Knorr. The annual exercises, Knorr continued, are essential for the firefighters in order to be able to work together optimally in an emergency.

During the exercise, various operational teams were equipped with breathing apparatus to recover injuries from an annex and the main house. Special caution was advised, because the fire object was also dangerous. "Dealing with these substances requires the highest precision and security," continued Knorr. In order to secure the operational process, the emergency services use a special detector system in the short -term care facility. This shows in which space the smoke detector struck, which is an important source of information for the emergency services.The exercise was not only successful in the execution, but also in the organization. The firefighters had to build up a water supply quickly and easily, which is often crucial for the course of use in emergencies.
