This extraordinary Pinot Noir from 2019 was created by two passionate wine lovers, Maximilian Gasch (28) and Julian Herrlich (29), who venture into wine production as career changers. The jury was unanimously enthusiastic and explained the wine about the "discovery of the year" - a truly historical moment for the Saxon wine landscape!
The two friends who climbed through the vineyards as children have teamed up with a clear goal: to create a wine of exceptional quality. After an instructive stay at Napa Valley, where Julian discovered his love for California red wines, the foundation stone was laid. With grapes from the wine location Meißener Kapitelberg and a newly procured barrique barrel from French-American oak, they have created a wine that impresses with intensive fruit and mature flavors. "This only happens here in Meißen," says Julian proudly about the hand -picked grapes.
a wine with character and future
The limited "Pino Noir" is offered for 78 euros per bottle and already has a pleasant drinking maturity, with the potential to mature further. Vinum describes the wine as a "power man with the future", which combines intensive fruit and nuances of dark chocolate. This award is not only a personal triumph for the two young winemakers, but also a milestone for Saxon wine production, which has not yet been known for their red wines. "We have no plans for another project, but maybe it will be a white wine or a sparkling wine," said the two. The future looks promising!
