Murder process in Beilrode: Pensioners threatens lifelong prison for arson

Leipzig/Beilrode. A 74-year-old pensioner, Detlev B., has been on trial again since Monday after letting a devastating fire in a new farmer in Beilrode more than four years ago. The Federal Court of Justice has decided that the case must be reopened to clarify whether the accused deliberately caused the death of his severely disabled stepson. The tragedy occurred on June 21, 2020, when Detlev B. with petrol sparked a fire that finally led to a terrible loss.

In the first process, Detlev B. was sentenced to twelve years in prison, but only for arson with death, since no evidence of the intention to murder is given. However, the public prosecutor disagrees and now calls for lifelong imprisonment for murder out of greed! She argues that Detlev B. acted out of anger and despair because his stepson Thomas Z. (46) was perceived as annoying. The pensioner is said to have planned to start a new life with the insurance money of around 215,000 euros. The evidence against him is overwhelming: traces of the fire accelerator were found on his shoes!

Detlev B. Detlev B. remains silent in the newly rolled -up process. His lawyer advises him not to comment. The fire ruins in Last is still a memorial to the tragedy, while Barbara Z., the defendant's partner, complains about the financial difficulties. The insurance company refuses to pay and the uninhabitable house was given away to relatives. Despite the shocking circumstances, she stays alongside her imprisoned partner and speaks courage. The 16th criminal chamber has already set two further trial days and the tension increases while the truth comes to light!
