Farmer Carsten Berg challenges AfD boss Chrupalla in the election campaign!

In the current political landscape of Germany, the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) is preparing for the Bundestag election, which will take place on February 23, 2024. On January 9, 2025, the BSW announced in a press release that it had drawn up Saxon candidates. Among the applicants there is a farmer from Bertsdorf-Hörnitz, Carsten Berg, Tino Chrupalla, the Federal Chairman of the AfD.

goal of the BSW chairman Sabine Zimmermann is to set up their own direct candidates in “strategic constituencies”. The district of Görlitz is one of these constituencies. Berg, which advocates agricultural issues and for the reduction of bureaucracy, has already applied for the state election and received 3,177 votes. Chrupalla, on the other hand, was able to win 15,138 votes in the last state election.

candidacies and challenges

The final candidate election of the BSW will take place in Zittau next week. So far, Berg has no opponent and plans to challenge Chrupalla in terms of content in order to draw attention to the problems of the population. Furthermore, several direct candidates from other parties have already been drawn up for the Bundestag election, including Florian Oest (CDU), Monique Hänel (Bündnisgrüne), Harald Prause-Kosubek (SPD), Toralf Einsle (FDP) and Gerhard Emil Fuchs-Kittowski (Left Party).

In terms of survey results, BSW has lost significantly in recent months and is between 4 and 7 percent nationwide. In addition, the BSW district chairman Jens Hentschel-Thöricht came under criticism after he had participated in a "peace demo" in December, such as TAG24 reported. The political topics and suggestions of the most important top Saxon candidates for the upcoming Bundestag election include social justice, a restart without traffic lights and investments in modern technologies.
