Dresden. The Elbe, one of the most powerful rivers in Europe, ensures excitement again! While the water levels fluctuate, the question arises: flood or low water? Experts observe the levels closely because they are crucial for the security of the residents and shipping. The Elbe flows majestically through East Germany and flows into the North Sea, but its moods can quickly become a threat.

There are currently no flood warnings for Saxony, but the water levels are critical. In Dresden it gets dangerous when the level increases over 5.5 meters. Then floods on the terrace bank and other entrances to the Elbe are inevitable. With a level of 6.10 meters, the mobile flood scores are activated to protect the city. The alarm levels are clearly defined: from small floods to very large floods - the population must always be on the hat!

The water levels in Schöna and in the Czech ústí nad Labem are decisive indicators for what is imminent. Experts in the state flood center derive forecasts from these values. The highest water level, which has ever been measured in Dresden, was 940 centimeters on August 17, 2002. The city has set up various warning systems to inform the population in good time: from radio and television to sirens to warning apps and social media. People have to be prepared because nature knows no mercy!
