Dresden's digital revolution: 50,000 households benefit until 2027!
by 2027 Dresden will work towards comprehensive digital upgrade. With the latest fiber optic expansion, up to 50,000 households and commercial units are intended to benefit from a state -of -the -art fiber optic network. The official starting shot for this important initiative was recently received by the Mayor Dirk Hilbert and the CEO of Saxony Energy, Frank Brinkmann.
The subsidiary Sachsengigabit of Saxony Energy initiated the construction work in the north of Dresden with a solemn groundbreaking. According to the company, around 4,000 addresses in the Hellerau, Klotzsche, Rähnitz and Wilschdorf districts will be connected to the new network in this first phase by the end of 2026. By the end of 2027 around 50,000 places in various Dresden districts, including Mickten, Trachau and Pieschen, will be connected to the fiber optic network.
The importance of fiber optic technology
Frank Brinkmann underlined the importance of fiber optic technology and explained: "Without fiber no digital future, we want to share Saxons in this digital progress." The investments of Saxony energy amount to well over 100 million euros, which illustrates the scope and long -term ambitions of the project. Mayor Dirk Hilbert (FDP) added that the fiber optic expansion not only benefits residents and companies, but also fundamental for future high-tech innovations.
Apart from the obvious advantages of fiber optic, such as faster internet speeds and a better connection, the new network is also characterized by environmental friendliness. The energy consumption is significantly lower than with conventional copper cables. In addition, homeowners have the option of securing the connection free of charge, provided that they conclude a contract before the start of construction.
Saxony energy not only sees fiber optic expansion as a technical modernization, but as a long -term investment in the region. The profits should flow back to the municipalities, and the strong cooperation with local partners guarantees a smooth and efficient expansion. In a more comprehensive plan, Saxony energy would like to connect a total of 133,000 households in Saxony to the fiber optic network by 2028.
