The good news: The number of water pipe breaks in the city area is declining! Thanks to the massive investments, the number of breaks in the past 20 years has halved. But precise numbers do not want to reveal one. The pipes that meander about 1500 kilometers under Chemnitz are made of plastic, casting and steel. But what does the pipes burst? According to one, it is primarily soil movements caused by extreme heat or external damage. Cold, on the other hand, is not a reason for a break, because the pipes are buried at least 1.20 meters deep and are therefore frost -free.

Despite the positive developments, there is an investment requirement, since not all old drinking water pipes have been renewed.
