Traffic chaos in Chemnitz: Construction work leads to traffic jams on Charlottenstraße!

These narrow streets have become the main division route for the blocked Geibelstraße in Gablenz, and the result is a nightmare for drivers. The Geibelstraße is fully closed until December 20 due to a drinking water disorder. Residents Dietmar Drechsel (67) experience it up close every day. "The street cannot cope with the entire volume of traffic," he explains frustrated. It becomes tight, especially in peak times: the narrow piece between the parish road and the Kreherstraße mutates into a traffic jam paradise. Cars even park to the intersection and hinder traffic. The S91 and S83 line buses of the CVAG struggle through the constriction.

The city administration has now set up bereabouts on critical crossing areas to improve the flow of traffic. But that is just a first step towards defusing this predicament. The condition of the Charlottenstraße also worries : "The budget for road maintenance has been inadequate for years to keep the streets in a reasonable state," said the official statement from the town hall. The residents are at the limit and the question remains: How long can this situation continue?
