Saxony's municipalities before the financial crisis: Malfunction of 426 million euros!

Dresden. A dramatic financial chaos threatens in Saxony's counties and circular cities! At the end of the year, a shocking minus of a total of 426.1 million euros is expected, as a current query from Sächsische.de reveals. Expenses exceed the income in such a way that the cash registers are empty. The district of Mittelachsen with a minus of 66.9 million euros and Chemnitz, which has the highest deficit forecast among cities at 67.7 million euros, are particularly affected. While Chemnitz sinks in the red area, Leipzig expects an unexpected positive result, thanks to the bubbling trade tax revenue.

Veronika Müller, deputy managing director of the Saxon district council, raises the alarm: "This is a worrying condition!" The steadily increasing social spending are the main reason for the financial misery. The district of Görlitz reports the worst result in its history with 47.5 million euros. The causes? Aid for care, integration aids for people with disabilities and rising wages with the same time falling tax revenue. Falk Gruber, spokesman for the Saxon Cities and Community Day, warns: "The gap between deposits and withdrawals has continued to open." The deficits in the municipalities could increase to terrifying 638 million euros by mid -2024!

The BUND is to blame!

The anger of the district councilors is tangible! Thomas Hennig, district administrator of the Vogtlandkreis, blames the federal government: "Our budget situation is the result of its failed politics!" The Vogtlandkreis expects a minus of 30 million euros and warns of a three -digit million amount in the upcoming double budget. The financial hardship forces many municipalities to accept cash loans - a dangerous vicious cycle that further restricts the scope for voluntary services. The Erzgebirge district reports that urgently needed infrastructure projects are at risk. Emergency aid of 680 million euros was promised, but the majority only flows in 2025 and 2026.
