In the heart of Chemnitz, an exciting chapter is opened today! The construction work for the new adventure farm in the Chemnitz zoo has started. But be careful! The adventure farm promises a unique adventure for all visitors: inside! Here you can experience endangered regional pet terraces up close. In addition to the already known ore mountain goats, the Vogtland red cattle, saddle pigs and a small robust sheep breed are also presented in an authentic environment. The visitors: Inside, even through some enclosures and have direct contact with the animals! A fascinating insight into the agriculture of past times and the development of pets is offered - an experience that should not be missed!
large plans for the zoo
The existing farm is extensively rebuilt and expanded by adjacent fallow land to create more space and an improved design of the entire system. This measure is part of the master plan for the further development of the Chemnitz zoo. The construction work is divided into two sub -projects: In the first section, the site is prepared for the new animal enclosure by demolishing old systems. New ways for visitors: inside and shelves for the animals are created. The completion of this first construction phase is planned for the second quarter of 2025.
The costs for this first part amount to an impressive 250,000 euros, which are fully financed by the city of Chemnitz with funding from the assets of the parties and mass organizations of the former GDR. The second part of the project is made by the Förderverein Tierparkfreunde Chemnitz e. V. taken over, while the city invests an additional 100,000 euros for new hubs. The Chemnitz zoo had specialized in the preservation of old regional pet breeds years ago, which hardly play a role in modern agriculture and are threatened with extinction.
