Chemnitz: Wastewater prices explode by 42 % - citizens in turmoil!

Grüna, Deutschland - The wastewater prices in Chemnitz shoot through the ceiling! From 2025, citizens must expect a shocking price increase of around 42 percent, and the introduction of rainwater into the sewage system will also be a third more expensive. This dramatic increase is part of a application for a decision by the Disposal company Chemnitz (ESC), which the city council will decide in November.

ESC operations manager Marcus Kropp (45) revealed that the exorbitant cost increases are due to the huge construction costs and the high investment needs. The disposal of a cubic meter wastewater will cost a proud 4.74 euros from January 2025 - before that it was only 3.33 euros. The increase in the fee proportion of the use of the sewage systems is particularly drastic, which climbs by an impressive 61 percent from 1.77 euros to EUR 2.86 per cubic meter. The fee for sealed areas is also increased: from 1.34 euros to 1.79 euros per square meter.

These plans encounter massive contradictions in the local councils. The local council Bernhard Herrmann (58, Greens) urges: "This is a social explosives!" An average household with two people has to expect additional costs of around 140 euros annually, which drives the total expenses over the 500 euro brand. Families with four members can even expect expenses of over 1,000 euros! This causes excitement and doubt: "I hardly know any other German city where the water costs are higher," adds Herrmann.

This is how local councilor Tatjana Schweizer (43, free voters) also expresses her concern. She emphasizes that larger families could face insurmountable financial challenges: "It should be checked whether suitable funding programs could reduce the cost burden." The developments in Chemnitz make it clear that citizens have to adapt to serious financial burdens, while politics are trying to solve solutions.
