50 years of Congress Hotel Chemnitz: a festival of history and hospitality!

Congress Hotel Chemnitz, Chemnitz, Deutschland - The Congress Hotel Chemnitz, the city's first skyscraper, celebrates an impressive 50th anniversary! On November 3, 2024, the hotel opens its doors to all Chemnitz and visitors from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hotel manager Hanns A. Schönfeld and his team present the history and impressive architecture of the house, which remains the highest building in the region with its 97 meters and 26 floors.

Visitors can not only visit the elegant rooms and suites, but also enjoy the breathtaking view from the panoramic restaurant on the 26th floor, while relaxing with coffee and cake. There is a make -up station and glitter tattoos for the little guests. And best of all: if you book a room on this special day, you will receive a discount of 10 percent!

A look at the story

The hotel was opened in 1974 as an Interhotel Congress in the then Karl Marx City and was a symbol for modern comfort with 386 rooms and up to 738 beds in the GDR. Planned by architect Rudolf Weißer, it is considered a masterpiece of the GDR architecture. From 1974 to 1991 it was the leading hotel of the city with six restaurants and three salons that offered space for over 1,000 guests. Over 600 employees provided first -class service.

After extensive renovations between 1992 and 1996, the lobby was converted into a modern conference area. The hotel changed several times and has been managed as Congress Hotel Chemnitz under the GCH Hotel Group since 2024. In the past 50 years, almost 10 million guests, including numerous celebrities from politics, sports and entertainment, have stayed in the hotel. Personalities like Angela Merkel, Katarina Witt and Helene Fischer adorn the guest list.
