Volunteering in Bautzen: three heroes awarded Annen medal!
In the district of Bautzen, three outstanding volunteers were awarded the Annen Medal by the Saxon Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD) on September 24, 2024. This medal honors people who are particularly committed to the common good and was donated by the Saxon State Government in 1995 to commemorate the charitable elector Anna von Saxony. This year the medal was awarded for the 29th time and represents valuable recognition for the commitment in the social field.
among the excellent personalities is Simone Krause from Bautzen. It has not only emerged through her extensive voluntary work, but also through her personal further training. After a two -year training as a mourning companion, she takes care of the end of the death of adults. Since 2020 she has been leading a group of children who are aimed at children aged five to twelve and is actively working on making the hospice idea known in public.
engagement of Katrin Poike
Another award winner is Katrin Poike from Neukirch/Lausitz. In 2021 she initiated the "family garden", a place of encounter for families without her own garden. Her commitment in the region goes back over 15 years, in which she has offered women's sports as well as senior citizens and children's sports. In addition, she launched the "club's window", which puts the local clubs in the foreground and regularly offers new content.
Karl Schmidt from Bautzen is the third volunteer who received the Annen medal for his tireless work. He organizes numerous events in the independent senior citizens' association and is committed to preventing loneliness among seniors. He is particularly an important contact in the country who often also provides practical help with repairs and uses his manual skills.
The Annen Medal is not only a sign of appreciation for the work of these great people, but also a focus on the importance of volunteering in society. The medal, made from Meißner porcelain, bears the inscription on the front "Help, maintain, promote" and "live with each other, be there" - words that summarize the basic principle of the volunteer.
