70 years of nature lovers: crocuses for flowering gardens and bees!
in Burkau, a small community, the members of the association "Nature and Home Freunde" are currently enjoying a special campaign: they distribute crocus onions in colorful bags. These bags are not only a pretty gift, but also fulfill an important purpose: they should help the bees that rely on nectar and pollen in the early spring.
The bags, each contain 70 crocus onions, were offered on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the association. The sale of crocative bags was very well received last year, especially beyond the borders from Burkau to Dresden. "This year we launched an anniversary edition and bought a total of 10,000 crocus onions. We can fill more than 140 bags," explains club boss Martine Wolf. The bags go well every day; A reorder could be necessary.
crocuses: spring messengers for the bees
The crocuses, which will blossom in bright colors such as purple, blue, yellow and white, are particularly important for the insect world. "The crocuses are the first flowers that bloom and deliver decisive sources of food for bees and bumblebees, but also for many wild bees," explains beekeeper Rico Jeschke, who brought the idea for this project into the club. These plants are indispensable because it makes a valuable contribution to the nutrition of insects in the middle of spring.
in Burkau and the surrounding communities have already been placed thousands of crocus onions into the ground. "Plant was really fun," reports Cornelia Lehmann, another active member of the association. It leads a pottery in Burkau and also sells the crocative bags. Together with her grandchildren, she planted the onions: "It was a big action, shoveling, inserting and trampling with hole. It worked wonderfully, and the flowers are now blooming." The anticipation for the coming spring is great when the gardens will show up in bright colors and the bees will show the hustle and bustle in the flowering beds.
This Initiative is a sign of sustainable environmental care and has meant that many Burkauer becomes active: the bags are not only a contribution to the beautification of the garden landscape, but also a small step towards nature conservation. It remains exciting to see how the efforts of the citizens will have an impact in the next spring and whether the crocuses can lure a new generation of bees.
Chief of Club Wolf is pleased with the response and hopes for further sales to motivate even more people to plant the crocuses and thus make an active contribution to protecting the bees. "Everyone can do something, and it starts in their own garden," she locks it optimistically.
