24 million euros for roads and cycle paths around the airport!

The state of Saxony is serious: With an impressive special financing of 24 million euros, the expansion of traffic routes around Leipzig/Halle Airport is tackled. The Ministry of Economic Affairs reported this on a sunny Sunday. A total of 30 individual measures are planned, which affect the municipalities of Schkeuditz, Krostitz and Rackwitz in particular. This initiative not only aims to improve the quality of life of the residents that often suffer from airport noise, but is also intended to further strengthen the fourth largest freight airport in Europe, which is of great importance for the economy of the Free State, such as mdr.de reported.

conversion of the airport - expand capacity!

In addition to the traffic measures, the extensive expansion of the airport was also approved. The State Directorate of Saxony gave the green light for the expansion of the apron 4. In this area, which previously extends over 58 hectares, there are now 39 hectares available to eliminate bottlenecks and to adapt the handling capacity to the steadily growing broadcast by 2032. The operating processes are optimized with new de -icing positions and better drainage, so reports ldl.sachsen.de .

But not everything runs without resistance. Over 8,000 objections to the expansion project were submitted by citizens, especially with regard to noise protection and the environmental impact. The airport operators are legally obliged to ensure sound insulation measures, which should help to minimize the stress for the surrounding communities. There are also requirements for low-noise aggregates and the compensation of nature and landscape interventions- a crucial measure, for example to protect local fauna such as fence lizards and lapwings.
