Osterburg benefits: 505,000 euros for children and communities from wind power!
Stendal is on the rise! The wind turbines in the unified community of Osterburg will bring a whopping 505,000 euros into the coffers in 2025! A benefit for the community, which is secured by existing contracts with the operators of 36 out of a total of 56 wind turbines in the area. These generous voluntary payments should not only fill the coffers, but also benefit the local people!
“With the new EEG Act 2022, the federal government has set a clear goal: create local acceptance for wind power and photovoltaic systems!” explains Mayor Nico Schulz (Free Voters). A concept for using the money has already been developed that allows citizens to benefit directly. In addition to supporting lunch in kindergartens and primary schools, part of the money is also invested in the towns where the wind turbines are located and which are therefore directly affected by noise pollution. Support of up to 2.16 euros per meal is planned for parents! The cost framework for this measure could be up to 220,000 euros!
Future plans and options
The administration is faced with three options when it comes to distributing the wind money payments: 15 percent for particularly affected towns, an annual per capita flat rate or the distribution of 252,000 euros to the communities with wind turbines. The decision could have a decisive influence on how the use of wind power is accepted and practiced here. Not only the allocation but also the use of the money is closely monitored. The localities affected must agree on how best to use the funds.
However, a spokesman for the municipality emphasizes that the 505,000 euros for 2025 are still variable and not set in stone - if the amount falls, subsidizing lunch has absolute priority! The windfall could also increase: further agreements with solar park operators are being planned, and the potential of wind power is far from exhausted. The wind is blowing strongly in Osterburg and the view is good!
