New open -cast mine in Niemberg: The first application in 18 years!

A remarkable application has been received by the responsible authorities in the last few days: Mitteldeutsche Baustoffe GmbH is planning to build a new open -cast mine in the northern Saalekreis. This has been the first application for a open-cast mine in Saxony-Anhalt for almost two decades, which gives the project additional attention.

The State Office for Geology and Mountain (LAGB) has received the application, which includes a mining area of around 51.9 hectares. The total area of space is also 67.6 hectar - remarkably, this is 22.1 hectares less than originally planned in 2001. It is planned that the hard stone venue will be operated over a period of 48 years and then a water with an area of approx. 33.7 hectares is created. These factors arouse the interest of many, especially since these measures will soon result in discussions about the use of resources in all of Saxony-Anhalt.

environment and permits

According to the Federal Mountain Law (BBergG), the company has the obligation to create a framework operating plan that must be approved in a mandatory planning approval procedure with an integrated environmental impact assessment. This procedure will be accessible to the public from October 21, 2024 to November 20, 2024, both in the Petersberg municipal administration and the Landsberg city administration. This procedure ensures that all environmental impacts are checked thoroughly.

Particular attention is paid to the water posture during the dismantling phase. The LAGB has explained that the waters incurred should be initiated after a preliminary explanation. Such measures are necessary to minimize the environmental impact on the waters and the surrounding area.

The public and interested parties have the opportunity to raise objections to the project. These objections can be made in writing or for the copy at the corresponding design locations and at the LAGB in Halle (Saale) during the period mentioned. This gives the citizens the opportunity to express their concerns and actively intervene in the decision -making process.

The excitement around this application has already started and it remains to be seen how the discussions will develop. The planned project could not only affect the existing resources in the region, but also re -infect the debate about the responsible use of natural materials and environmental protection.
