District council decides on important measures for emergency pastoral care and cycling traffic

On October 30, 2024, the district council met in the Saalekreis and decided to take significant measures that affect both emergency care and cycling. A central topic was the agreement with the Evangelical Church Circle of Merseburg to ensure psychosocial acute aid, which will be equipped with a doubling of the grants to EUR 2,400 per year from 2024. This support is crucial to assist the police, emergency services and fire brigade in traumatic situations. The free discussions offered by volunteers have already been used 40 times this year, and demand is expected to continue to increase.

Another important decision concerns the planning of a comprehensive cycle path network. The district council commissioned the creation of a concept for a knot path allocation that is supposed to link tourist highlights and everyday traffic. The bicycle traffic not only increases in the leisure area, but is also becoming increasingly important for the everyday life of citizens. With about 300 km signposted cycle paths in the Saalekreis, including tourist routes, the improvement of the infrastructure is seen as an investment in the future. The majority of the district council members supported the recommendations from the committees for business, construction and regional development as well as the finance and district committee.

The measures are not only a reaction to the increasing needs of the population, but also a step towards a sustainable development of the Saalekreis. The focus on cycling and psychosocial support shows the commitment of the district council to react to the challenges of today and at the same time increase the quality of life of the citizens.
