A14 expansion: Construction of the Elbbrücke overtakes the Eiffel Tower!

A14 expansion: Construction of the Elbbrücke overtakes the Eiffel Tower!

The A14 north extension motorway will be dramatically delayed! Holger Behrmann, overall project manager of the A14 at the German Unity, long-distance street planning and construction society (Deges), announced that the completion of the Osterburg- Seehausen section is not to be expected before 2030. Although Deges has been officially responsible for this section since autumn 2022, the planning has been underway for years. The delays are due to the necessary ecological compensation measures and the laying of a pipeline that can only begin after the next time of revision in autumn 2025.

The Autobahn GmbH, which was founded in 2018, took responsibility for planning, construction and operation of the German motorways. The first steps to award the order for the A14 section were initiated in 2023, but the actual construction work can only begin after a waiting time of two years after the ecological measures. This means that the highway can only be built at the earliest in 2026, which shifts to 2030.

Construction progress of the Elbe Bridge

While the A14 gets stalls, there is positive news from the Elbe Bridge between Seehausen and Wittenberge. Project manager Kathrin Fiedler from Deges reports that 300 meters of the bridge have already been completed. With a total length of 412 meters, the bridge is built with around 8,800 tons of steel - more than the Eiffel Tower! The innovative guting technique, which has been in use for two and a half years, enables the individual pre -assembled parts to be pushed over the Elbe.

The release of the upstream section Stendal - Osterburg, which is about seven kilometers long, is expected to take place in 2028. This section leads from the B188 to the Easter Business junction and is therefore put into operation before the A14 north extension.
