Yesterday was a big day for Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Saxony-Anhalt! The S-Bahn Magdeburg celebrated its 50th anniversary! The S-Bahn has been bringing people through the picturesque landscapes of northern Saxony-Anhalt for 50 years. In December 2014 she was renamed the S-Bahn Middle Elder and now connects the charming cities of Schönebeck/Bad Salzelmen, Magdeburg, Stendal and Wittenberge. This railway line is not just a means of transport, but a lifeline for the region that linked industrial and leisure areas.
with twelve modern electric power trains, equipped with air conditioning and free WiFi, the S-Bahn ensures a comfortable travel experience. Dr. Lydia Hüskens, Minister of Infrastructure and Digital, praised the S-Bahn success model: "Thanks to the dense station network and modern vehicles, it is valued by people. Mobility means freedom and we want all forms of mobility to be freely selected!" The S-Bahn Magdeburg was launched on September 29, 1974 as line A and has developed enormously since then. New stations have been added and the route length extended to impressive 130 kilometers, with 30 stations that are operated every hour.
an indispensable partner
The S-Bahn Middle Elbe is not only a backbone of local transport, but also a sign of the continuous development of the region. With a 30-minute cycle between Stendal and Magdeburg and half-hour connections between Magdeburg and Schönebeck-Bad Salzelmen, the S-Bahn is an indispensable partner for the commuters. Christine Singer, chair of the regional management DB Regio Südost, emphasized the reliability and quality of the company: "We ensure that our trains are technically maintained, clean and reliable." The S-Bahn is therefore not only a means of transport, but also a symbol of progress in Saxony-Anhalt!
