Harz mountain run: Over 3,000 runners defy the rain!

Wernigerode experienced a sporting highlight when more than 3,000 runners from all over the world tackled the mountain run through the picturesque resin. With 3,375 registrations, a remarkable result was achieved, which the organizers announced with great pride. It was an event where athletes from ten different nations came together to face the challenges of the run. Fortunately, serious injuries remained during the competition, which also underlined the positive atmosphere among the participants.

The physical preparation of the athletes had its own challenges, especially due to the heavy rains of the previous days. These weather conditions could have discouraged some of the participants, but during the run the sun seemed and caused pleasant running conditions. Unfortunately, the hoped -for new route record was missing this year, which did not reduce the sadness of the weather conditions.

The event offered a variety of routes that were suitable for every age group and fitness level. In addition to the classic marathon distance of around 42.2 kilometers, the participants were also able to choose shorter distances of 22, 11 and 5 kilometers. The participation of the offspring was particularly gratifying: the Brocken children's run, which had a distance of only 2 kilometers, attracted 280 children aged five to ten, which reinforced the family atmosphere.

The first mountain run, still known as Brocken marathon, took place on October 14, 1978 and was able to mobilize over 1,200 runners. In 1990 the route was first led over the 1,142 meter high chunk, which made the run a special experience. The Brocken is not only the highest elevation in the Harz, but also one of the most impressive scenes that you can want for a competition.

The organizers are very satisfied with the overall result of the run, since the event makes a valuable contribution not only in the sporting sense, but also in community education between people of different origins and nationalities. This positive response and the commitment of everyone involved make the Harz Mountain Run a fixed size in the calendar of the sporting events.
