Large exercise at the airport: 150 rescuers rehearsals for emergency landing with explosions
Braunschweig. On Wednesday evening it was anything but quiet at Braunschweig Airport! Over 150 emergency services were used to simulate a dramatic scenario: an airplane that rises in flames after landing and explodes a engine. The exercise should test the reactionability of the airport employees and the cooperation with the police, fire brigade and emergency services under extreme conditions.
From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the airport was closed to regular air traffic, while loud gnall and explosions met the air - even several kilometers away, the noises could be heard! This impressive exercise was not only a test, but also an important preparation for an emergency. Operations manager Maik Wermuth was enthusiastic about the course: "The communication and the interaction of the various emergency services worked excellently."
Realistic conditions for the forces
The exercise used a machine that was no longer able to fly to create realistic conditions. In this way, the emergency services were able to work under authentic circumstances and refine their skills. The impressive coordination and cooperation between the various teams showed how well prepared the forces are for possible emergencies. A big praise to everyone involved who stand up for security at the airport!
