Bitter decision: Historical station building in Benneckenstein falls!

Benneckenstein, Deutschland - In the picturesque Harz, a bitter turn is near for the Harz narrow -gauge railways. As both news38.de href = "https://www.nnz-online.de/news/news_lang.php?artnr=356879" Class = "Source_2"> nnz-online.de , the historical reception building at Benneckenstein station must be demolished. Managing Director Katrin Müller expressed the severe concerns of the HSB and regretted the inevitable decision to comply with the obligation to ensure traffic safety.

The reason for this drastic measure lies in the threatening spread of the real house sponge, a destructive wood -destroying mushroom that has affected the entire building. A recently commissioned report made it clear that a renovation -related rescue of the building that has existed since 1898 was excluded. However, the outbuildings, including the former goods soil, are not affected by this fate and should be preserved. This decision represents a significant loss for the train station, which was originally supposed to be converted for tourist purposes.

more about the history of the building

The reception building was part of a private company under a heritage law contract until 2005 that had ambitious plans for tourist uses. After several renovation -related work on the outer facade and the bankruptcy of the company in 2011, many of the interiors remained unaffected. After lengthy legal fights, the HSB received access to the buildings again in September of this year. Now, however, the demolition is imminent when the time has not yet been finally determined.
