Stumbling blocks in Zeitz: 52,800 euros for memory and memory!
In an impressive act of solidarity, around 52,800 euros in donations for the stumbling blocks in Zeitz have come together in the past four weeks! Over 1,000 spacious donors from Zeitz, the Burgenlandkreis, Germany and even beyond have participated in the call. District Administrator Götz Ulrich and Mayor Christian Thieme are enthusiastic and thank all supporters of the "Stumbling block for Zeitz" initiative.
memory of the victims of the Holocaust
The money collected is used to replace ten stolen stumbling blocks that are reminiscent of Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The donations cover the costs for the restoration and inserting of the stones as well as the temporary filling of the holes caused by breaking out. In addition, the creative action is supported by pupils from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium, which have made plastic stones with a 3D printer as a temporary replacement. All other donations flow into the support of the memory work to the former Jewish communities in the Burgenland district and benefit the Simon-Rau-Zentrum.
In the past few weeks, numerous suggestions for strengthening the memory of Jewish life in Zeitz and the more intensive combating of anti-Semitism have achieved the Simon-Rau Center. The ideas of these proposals are referred to the center, which makes the decision to use the donations for further projects. A jury for advice on the use of the donations is not necessary because the association makes the decisions independently.
